Langtang Region Trek in 2024
Both Langtang and Helambu are located in the north of Kathmandu and offer a multitude of trekking destinations. Langtang region is inhabited by a majority of Tamang people with rich cultures and tradition. Helambu is mostly inhabited by Sherpas who have rich cultures and traditions. Both destinations are easy to reach and are accessible only by road. Langtang and Helambu are divided by a high pass with about 13 beautiful lakes, Gosainkunda is the biggest and the holiest.
Langtang is a narrow valley that lies just south of the Tibetan border Keyrong. The highest point in Langtang is the Langtang Lirung (7,246m). Some smaller mountains are Gang Chenpo (6,380m), Naya Kanga (5,846m) and Dorje Lhakpa (6,966m). Helambu is mostly villages of Sherpa settlements and offers very easy trekking since the altitude remains below 3,500m and is accessible all year. This year His Majesty’s Government has opened some new trekking routes in Rasuwa District, which were regarded as restricted area or routes for tourists. Some of these treks will take you closer to the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China. So be the first to trek this route!
